1. Mid-EP doodles. (By "mid" I mean almost done but still caught up in my feelings).
2. I love when artists give practical advice about being an artist. The abstract "believe in yourself" is great, but sometimes you want something you can feel... something tangible, something about money, about not having it, about how to create when you don't have it, how to self-promote, how to balance that with fear, how to deal with failure ... and I'm so glad I watched this Skepta interview.
"It's easy for you to dismiss me and say 'Oh, but you're Skepta', but at some point, no one knew who I was. All I had was this idea of doing something but not knowing people who could help make it happen and considered failure before even trying. Just understand that, for most things, if you can think it, you can make it materialize. As soon as you think it, get the right people around you, not those who are like, 'Mmmm, I don't know, I don't really think that can work'. No. Align yourself with people that will make it work, people who want it to work. And if you don't have the means to make it work on as big a scale as you would like it to, start on a small scale then build and build. Promote yourself and be original and stay original. Because there's pressure to be like everyone else and you end up thinking like everyone else, and you want to be in the "scene" that's been created by Radio 1 or whatever, but forget that. You're an individual; promote your work, believe in your work and when you want to achieve something, set the goal and don't stop until you get there and I promise you, you'll get powerful, even after just achieving one. And then you'll do the next one, and the next one, and you'll just become unstoppable. It's all about not being scared to be an individual. People are going to say 'You're weird, you've fallen off, you're different' and then they'll eventually get it. You need to be ready to go through that. Be prepared to go to rock bottom and start again. Be individual and stick to what you do and know that people are going to diss you and not understand but that's exactly what you want. You don't want people to understand. You don't want them to know how you're making this work and you carry on and be great. Be great."
If that's not a bible verse, I don't know what is.
